The city of Franklin, located in Warren County, was named after Benjamin Franklin and became a city in 1951. The Great Miami River, which runs through Franklin, overflowed in the 1913 "Great Flood" devastating the city. In 1971 Franklin opened the world's first garbage recycling plant. The quality of life in Franklin today suits all socio-economic backgrounds. Recreational activities in the area include a 65-acre community park, youth athletic programs, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, athletic fields, football stadium, golf course, driving range, shopping and dining. Residents of Franklin are serviced by the excellent Franklin City School System whose motto is: Large Enough to Serve You--Small Enough to Know You. Excellent healthcare and affordable housing attract many to the City of Franklin.
