The city of Franklin, located in Warren County, was named after Benjamin Franklin and became a city in 1951. The Great Miami River, which runs through Franklin, overflowed in the 1913 "Great Flood" devastating the city. In 1971 Franklin opened the world's first garbage recycling plant.
